Dennis Rodman Bad As I Wanna Be Doll & Dennis Rodman Wedding Day Doll

In this entry, I am featuring my 2 Dennis Rodman dolls: the "Bad As I Wanna Be" doll, and the "Dennis Rodman Wedding Day" doll. These dolls were made by Street Players and were released in 1996 after the release of Dennis Rodman's autobiography, "Bad As I Wanna Be".



Aside from his amazing basketball skills, Dennis Rodman has always been a colorful celebrity, from his ever-changing hair colors to his outrageous outfits.



It always piqued my interest when I would see media coverage of him during my childhood years.

He has spoken out against the use of fur, working with PETA in their "Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign, with the slogan "Ink Not Mink".



He has also appeared supporting breast cancer research.



He has recently been in the news for his February 26, 2013 meeting with Kim Jong-un while he was in North Korea hosting basketball exhibitions.




The Dolls: I bought these dolls last month on ebay. They were sold together. I came across the dolls while perusing the doll section on ebay. I did not know that these dolls existed before then. I thought they would be an interesting addition to my collection. It was the Wedding Day doll that made me place my bid. It was so campy and it will fit in perfectly with a pair of dolls I have (that will remain unnamed, as I plan to feature them in the future and don't want to spoil the surprise).

Dennis Rodman Wedding Day: This 12" doll is wearing a copy of the wedding dress Dennis Rodman famously wore for a book signing. It has rooted red hair under a white veil, white sports shoes, and painted-on white gloves (the gloves have some yellowing to them). The doll has true-to-life tattoos as well.

Bad As I Wanna Be: This 12" doll has flocked hot pink hair and true-to-life tattoos. He wears a basketball uniform with black sports shoes and a basketball.





He comes with a change of clothing that includes a silver vest, jean shorts, and a pair of knee-high silver boots.



This doll comes with an interchangable head featuring bright green flocked hair and silver sunglasses. At some point in the future, I plan on buying a second Bad As I Wanna Be doll to display this second head and costume.



I think I'll display the two dolls together, in a sort of 'newlywed' way...

Barbie I Can Be... President B Party Doll - Nia

Today's entry features the BARBIE® I CAN BE...™ President B PARTY™ Doll Nia. This doll was unveiled about one year ago and is currently still at Toys R Us, where I purchased her on Easter Sunday.

The President Barbie comes in 4 flavors: Barbie, Nikki, Theresa, and Nia, respectively.

Tea & Backstory... This last Sunday was Easter. My best friend and I were planning on going to an arts & crafts store, but when we got there we discovered that it was closed for the holiday. Most of the stores in that immediate area were also closed, but as we drove on, I saw that there was a Toys R Us, and it was open. We decided to go there.

I haven't been to Toys R Us in years. I accompanied a friend's friend about ten years ago to Babies R Us, and the last time I stepped into a Toys R Us was as a child in the mid-1990's, in Midland, Texas while I was visiting family. I have nothing against the store, but I forget that it is there and I just haven't gone. I'm glad we passed this one, and glad that we went inside. I of course made a beeline to the Barbie aisle. I saw a few items on clearance, and the I Can Be... President dolls were part of the clearance. I decided to get the President Nia version. Her box top was damaged, which I didn't mind (I suppose I could have dug around for another Nia with an undamaged box, but I don't keep my dolls boxed, so like I said, I didn't mind). As I said, she was on clearance, for 8.98, and I signed up for the (free) rewards card, which gave me an extra 20% off on top of that, making Nia's price just over 7 dollars. I love the little details.

The Doll: The I Can Be... President outfit was designed by designer Chris Benz.

I like the cloth's pattern. I like this better than just a plain fabric.

I love the cardboard backing that is part of the packaging. The podium can be seperated from the backing, as well as the "Barbie 2012" sign. Nia looks great in front of and behind the podium.

Madame President Barbie stands on her own without a seperate stand. Her shoes are part of her legs, and are what enables her to stand. And they're super cute, too!

It turns out that Barbie lost the presidential race to President Obama, but there's always next election!
